This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Plc (DIA). the photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
'Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POP storage areas, (1-I) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified

A probably secured ammunition storage
area is located in the woods 5 kilometers (km)
northwest of Chernigov on the west side of the
Gomel-Kiyev rail line (Figure 1).
The installation covers approximately 207
acres and contains 26 ammunition storage
buildings, 2 barracks, 1 administration building/
barracks, 10 support buildings, 1 small-arms
firing range, and an athletic field (Figures 2
and 3).

raphy.
Railroad Service
The area is served by a spur from Gomel-
Kiyev rail line.
Road Service
An all-weather secondary road provides
access to Chernigov.
Administrative and `T'roop Housing Area
Area D contains 1 barracks/administration
building, 2 barracks, and 10 general support
buildings. Coverage indicates heavy summer
activity with a marked decrease in activity
in the winter.
Ammunition Storage Area
Area F contains approximately 26 ammuni-
tion storage buildings. The buildings are well
dispersed in a wooded area, precluding de-
termination of the exact building count or degree
of activity.
POL Storage Areas
Forty medium and 4 small vertical storage
tanks are located in a secured area 4.5 km to
the south-southeast.
One large, 4 medium and 6 small vertical
storage tanks are located in a probably secured
area 7 km to the south-southeast.
Athletic Field
Area K is a 500- by 200-foot athletic oval
which appears moderately active.
Small-Arms Firing Range
Area L is an 800- by 75-foot small-arms
firing range.
Heavy activity is evident on summer cover-
age with little or no activity in the winter.
