It is situated on flat-to-gently rolling terrain, with an average elevation of 1,100 to 1,200 feet. Although the launch sites are situ- ated within small groves of trees, most of the surrounding area has been cleared and is under cultivation. There is no improved complex road system and no well-defined road pattern is ap- parent; existing unimproved roads and tracks are utilized. The complex consists of a complex support facility and three single-silo launch areas (Fig- ure 1). It can be negated on photography of = and first evidence of construction was apparent in No surface-to-air missile (SAM) defenses have been identified in the vicinity of the complex. COMPLEX SUPPORT FACILITY The complex support facility (53-03N 60- 34E), located on a spur which joins the main rail line between Magnitogorsk and Akmolinsk, con- sists of a railhead and storage area and an ad- ministration/housing area (Figure 2). The spur about 7,600 feet to the southwest, to the site of a rail-to-road transfer point. The railhead and storage area consists of 3 parallel spurs and a fourth under construction, 12 buildings, and a small vehicle/equipment pool. Most of the buildings appear to be of the warehouse or storage type. The administration/housing area is situated about 3,000 feet southwest of the rail- head and storage area. It contains 7 barracks- type buildings and 3 smaller structures. LAUNCH AREA A Launch Area A (Figure 3) is located about 5.5 nm west-southwest of the complex support facility. There was no evidence of the area in and construc- first observed in The area was not covered on Mission The launch site, 985 by 810 feet, is enclosed by a probable security fence. A 285- by 190-foot rectangular area within the launch site, with its long axis oriented north-northwest and south- southeast, is enclosed by a probable board fence. Ditching extends along the inner northern side of the probable board fence, and then turns northwestward about 45 degrees and terminates in a large spoil pile. Only 4 buildings are visible in the vicinity of the launch site. One large barracks-type building is about 2,500 feet north-northeast of the site, and 2 smaller buildings are positioned just south of it. The other building is located 350 feet southeast of the site. There is also an unidentified mound or structure along the southeast side of the probable security fence. 25X1D 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D Handle Via TALE EY Approved For Relea " fl 0 S 6 ~ 1 6 f W6 DP78B04560A0@~3 , 6-1 Approved For Release 20Q?/~TRRDB04560A004300010046-1 Handle Via TALENT-KEYHOLE Control System Only TCS- 10660/64 NPIC/R-5138/64 RAILHEAD AND STORAGE AREA VEHICLE/ EQUIPMENT POOL \ \\ 11{ \ I1{{1 If If.* ?\%I ADMINISTRATION/ HOUSING AREA Railroad Railroad under construction Unimproved road Track/trail Ditch 50 0 500 1000 FEET IAPPRO XIMATEI RAIL-TO- ROAD TRANSFER POINT I RAILHEAD AND STORAGE AREA Rail spur lengths 2000' Rail spur separations 160'and825' 1 Building 150,,x 50' 2 Buildings 1401 x 45' 2 Buildings 125' x 50' 2 Buildings 110' x 30' 1 Building 85' x 30' 2 Buildings 60' x 40' 1 Building 50' x 25' 1 Building ADMINISTRATION/HOUSING AREA 7 Buildings 140' x 451 25X1 D FIGURE 2.
