This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1Pla.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Tbilisi Army Barracks UL Shaumyan is
located 7 kilometers (km) southeast of the main
Tbilisi railroad station (Figure 1).
The installation covers 100 acres and con-
tains 4 barracks, 2 administration, 4 storage,
4 vehicle maintenance buildings, 5 vehicle
sheds, 3 administration/storage buildings, and
24 dependents quarters (Figures 2 and 3).
The installation was covered by KEYHOLE
missions between
Comparative analysis reveals continuous ac-
tivity, and no significant change in the area.
DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION
Railroad Service
The installation has road access to the
main rail network in Tbilisi; however, no rail
spur enters the installation.
Road Service
The installation has direct access to the
city.
Administrative and Troop Hous Lng Area
Area D contains 4 multistory barracks
and 2 administration buildings.
General Storage Area
Area E contains 4 storage buildings.
Other Buildings and Facilities
Area H contains 24 dependents quarters.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Area
Area J contains 5 vehicle sheds (three 180
by 60 feet, one 230 by 60 feet, and one 190 by
40 feet), 4 vehicle maintenance buildings (100
by 50 feet, 130 by 35 feet, 80 by 25 feet, and
70 by 35 feet), and 3 administration/storage
buildings.
