This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Plc (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1P lc.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batter. ies), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Gusev Army Barracks North is located
on the northern edge of Gusev (Figure 1).
This location is within 4 kilometers (km) of
2 other military barracks areas Gusev Army
Barracks NE
and Gusev
Army Barracks Rominte River South -
Gusev Army Barracks North covers 150
acres and contains an administration building,
7 barracks, 12 storage buildings, 5 vehicle
maintenance/storage buildings, and 2 motor
parks with probable tanks/SP guns and vehicles.
A small-arms firing range and 2 subcaliber
firing ranges are located at the northern end
of the installation. The barracks installation
is secured by a fence and is both road and rail
served (Figures 2 and 3).

DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION
Railroad Service
The barracks installation is served by a
rail line with a short spur branching from it
and contains a trackside dock approximately
100 feet long.
Road Service
Gusev Army Barracks North is served by
primary and secondary roads from t:he town
of Gusev.
Administrative and Troop Housing Area
Area D contains an administration building, ?
3 multistory barracks, and 4 single-story bar-
racks.
General Storage Areas
Area E1 contains 7 single-story probable
sheds.
Area E2 contains 2 single-story probable
storage buildings which may be gun sheds.
Area E3 contains one rail-served storage
building, and 2 single-story storage buildings.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Areas
Area J1 contains a motor park (550 by
200 feet), a vehicle storage building (300 by
60 feet), and 3 rows of tanks or unidentified
vehicles.
Area J2 contains a motor park (450 by
160 feet), a vehicle storage building (450 by
100 feet), and 2 rows of tanks or unidentified
vehicles.
Area J3 contains 2 vehicle maintenance/
storage buildings or gun sheds (330 by 50
feet and 430 by 60 feet) and a vehicle main-
tenance/storage building (260 by 50 feet).
Small-Arms Firing Ranges
Area L1 is a small-arms firing range
350 by 50 feet.
Area L2 is a subcaliber firing range
1,100 by 330 feet.
Area L3 is a subcaliber firing range
1,100 feet long with 2 firewalls 180 feet apart.
