WEEKLY SUPPLEMENT
AAA SITE SURVEY
NORTH VIETNAM
This report supplements the monthly "AAA Site Survey,
North Vietnam." Based on the latest aerial photographic
missions available to the NPIC, it updates the most recent
weekly supplement or monthly report, and provides informa-
tion on newly identified sites, which after initaial reporting
will be carried only when occupied. Previously reported
unoccupied sites will be evaluated on a mission-by-mis-
sion basis, and reported immediately when first observed
to be occupied.
For reporting purposes, AAA defenses are divided
into three basic categories: HMGAA (50 cal. and 12.7mm),
light (ZPU-1, ZPU-2, ZPU-4, 37mm), medium (57mm,
85 mm), and heavy (100mm and larger).
The computer tabulation provides the following infor-
mation, from left to right, in two or more lines entires.
A. FIRST LINE
(1) Installation Number--A unique installation number
containing the standard two letter country designator, a
two digit province designator, and a four digit installation
designator within the province. The ALPHA E denotes
the NPIC report type. A map showing provinces and
their designators is included in this report.
(2) Name --Name of nearest town or village as derived
from the AMS map series L509, scale 1:250,000, and ab-
breviated within the ten space limitation, as appropriate.
(3) Military District -- A two letter or Roman Numeral
abbreviation of the military district as indicated on
the map included in this report.
(4) Coordinates--Geographic coordinate derived from
the AMS map series L509, scale 1;250,000 and/or AMS
005400010016-2
map series L701, scale 1:50,000. In case of multiple
sites reported under the same installation number, the
coordinate represents the centermost coordinate.
(5) UTM -- UTM coordinate, derived from the AMS
series L509, scale 1:250,000 and/or AMS map series
L701, scale 1:50,000, carried to the nearest 100
meters. In case of multiple sites reported under the
same installation number, the coordinate represents
the centermost coordinate.
(6) Status -- Listed as active or dummy. Only occupied
dummy sites will be reported.
B. SECOND LINE
(1) Date - - Date of information (photography) from which
the report is derived.
(2) Mission -- Mission Alpha/numeric designator from
which the report is derived.

(3) Frame --Frame number(s)from which the report is
derived. The IBM program provides for a maximum of
two selected frame numbers. Incases where the instal-
lation is imaged on more than two frames, the two best-
quality frames are recorded. The alpha designator pre-
ceeding the frame number denotes the camera position.
(4) Count --Site, position, and equipment count normally
expressed by a single digit in the case of site(s), and no
more than two digits in the case of position(s) and
equipment.
(5) Site Category--Site category preceded by degree

of confidence.
The third and following lines report the number of
positions occupied and/or unoccupied; the size of the weapon
(light, medium, or heavy); other equipment by count and type
(fire control radar, fire director, etc. ); and associated
vehicles, as appropriate.
When two or more sites are carried under the same
installation number, normally they will be reported in their
entirety and one will immediately follow the other.
Several abbreviations appearing in the "Equipment
Type" column include: PROB. (Probable), POSS. (Possible),
LT. (Light), MED. (Medium), HVY. (Heavy), PSN. (Position),
OCC. (Occupied), UNOCC. (Unoccupied), and HMGAA
(Heavy Machine Gun Antiaircraft). Other abbreviations
may appear in this column when equipment and/or vehicles
are reported and as imposed by report space limitations.
In an installation containing more than one site, the "Equip-
ment Type" column will also indicate the number either
dismantled or not observed.
Sites are arranged by geographic coordinates in ascend-
ing order. Upon request, NPIC can provide additional
listings in any of the following sequences: installation
number, alphabetic, military district, UTM coordinates,
or date of information.
