SA-2 Missile Activity 2. Cruise-Missile Activity 3. Airfield Activity 4. Naval and Port Activity 5. Electronics Activity 6. Military Activity 7. Static Military Displays SA?2 Missile Activity (Figures 1 and 2j SA-2 missile activity was generally routine during the reporting period. However, the strategic addition of 3 new sites and abandon- ment of 2 old temporary sites indicate that the deployment philosophy is still to concentrate the SAM sites in the 4 major military areas -- Havana, Holguin, Santa Clara/Cienfuegos, and Santiago de Cuba. The new El Cano site brings the total in the Havana area to 13. In the Holguin area, a new.. site was identified at Holguin Air- field, and the San Pedro de Cacocum Site No. 1 (temporary) was abandoned and the equipment moved to a new permanent site, San Pedro de Cacocum No. 2. Los Angeles SAM site was abandoned and a permanent site under construc- tion was observed at La Maya, near Santiago de Cuba. No SAM equipment was observed during reporting period. The activity commenced with the ahandonment of the 4 SAMLET (coastal defense) sites and was climaxed by the apparent distribution of the SALISH (tactical) equipment from San Jose de las Lajas cruise-missile storage area to ocher parts of the island. The $SAMLE"I~ launchers from the vacated sites are now relocated at San Jose de las Lajas, with ~ of the launchers deployed for training purposes. Six SAMLI=T transporters are parked on the west end of the runway at ~Ylariel Port and Itiaval Air Station. Si anea, Site was vacated on - Guanajay.
