PREFACE
This report is a summary of selected information
on transportation and infiltration activity in southeast
Asia as reported by NPIC during the period indicated
on the cover. Those lines of communication and associ-
ated facilities which support communist insurgency in
Laos and South Vietnam are emphasized.
Items are numbered and arranged according to location
from north to south. Annotated maps of varying scales
have been included to assist the reader in locating the
items. Each large-scale map depicts all motorable roads
photographically confirmed by NPIC unless otherwise in-
dicated.
Missions, mission dates, frames, and NPIC cable
and briefing board references are listed after each item,
as appropriate.

The only area defense is provided by three light AAA sites
(6 positions each) located on the periphery of Xom Ca Trang at UTM
coordinates WE869848, WE868846 and WE868844 (Figures 1 and 2). At least
25X1D 14 of the positions are occupied

A description of each of the areas, grouped by apparent function
and proceeding north to south, follows.

1. Major Storage Complex, Route 15/101 Junction, North Vietnam
A major storage complex
is located in the vicinity of the junction of
North Vietnam Routes 15 and 101 at 17-54N 105-49E, approximately 15 nm
north of the Mu Gia Pass. Eleven facilities/areas of vehicular activity
are linearly dispersed along connecting segments of Routes 15, 101 and
1501. Although activity relating to the movement of personnel and
supplies into Laos has been periodically identified along these routes
in the past, recent photography reveals a heretofore unknown complexity
of facilities and a major expansion effort.
Air strikes in the area have concentrated on the multiple river
crossings immediately north of Xom Ca Trang and the junction of Routes
15 and 101. The major route segments and the numerous access roads
appear to have been uneffected by random interdiction attempts, and the
facilities themselves are completely unscathed.

A major storage area is located along the southern edge of a large
karst hill and bounded by WE865832, WE870838 and wE874828 (Figure 5).

At least 50 vehicle parking slots are located on both sides of an
access road parallel to Route 15 between WE866824 and WE87082l.
Additional parking slots have been recently constructed on the east
side of an adjacent segment of Route 15 between WE866821 and WE868820.
A probable storage area, identical in concept to the one in Figure 5,
is under development between WE883815 and WE889803. An access road under
construction follows the karst contour and joins Route 15 at WE8738l5
(Figure 4). Construction is still generally well concealed by natural
vegetation; however, a trellis has been constructed over a short road
segment. A previously existing road, with one major spur, provided access
to this karst area and although no buildings are
discernible, limited storage facilities probably exist.
Vehicle parking areas and extensive track activity are located on
both sides of Route 101 within WE888773, WE898772, WE897767, and WE892767
(Figure 6). Although most tracks terminate at the tree line, no facilities
are discernible.

of a possible storage or support facility at WE902757. A stream bed being
utilized by vehicles and a well-used trail paralleling Route 1501 to
connect with Route 101 provides access to the area.
An interconnecting system of access roads serve in excess of 60
parking slots and short parking lanes west of Route 1501 within WE892752,
WE901753, WE902749, and WE893748 (Figure 8). Well-used trails serve a
possible bivouac/support area located along the base of a karst hill
between WE899749 and WE903748
