This installation is a minor patrol boat base, possible associated with
coastal patrol functions. Normal order of battle at this base includes
Shanghai PTF, Swatow PGM, and Whampoa PGM.
Facilities include 1 finger pier, 1 large support building, and several
small structures.
The naval facility is located on an artifical boat basin which had
depths of from 8 to 16 ft in 1948.

Within the Ching-tao inner harbor.
This installation provides administrative support and berthing facilities
for significant numbers of North Sea Fleet units, including vessels as large
as Gordyy DDs.
The installation is composed of the main naval base, located at the
innermost of the large port facility moles, and the back bay berthing area,
which is generally used to berth auxiliaries.
Facilities at the main naval base include a large mole and a mooring
basin which provide a total of 4 quays suitable for vessel berthing, a
small support complex comprised of 10 buildings and POL storage including a
large vertical POL storage tank, and 12 support buildings on the mole.
The rail-served back bay berthing area consists of a long quay, a small
floating pier, 4 support buildings and extensive open storage.
Depths alongside the south side of the mole are reported to be 16 to 33
ft and 12 to 33 ft on the north side. Depths at the molehead vary from
31 to 33 ft.

Within. the Ching'-tao Port Complex.
This yard is capable of performing major repairs on any vessel in the
Chicom inventory. This yard has also engaged in new construction, notably
the Leichou A0.
Facilities include 1 grav:ing dock, 2 building/repairways, a building
area, 1 T-head pier, 3 floating piers, 3 large fabrication buildings, 1
heating plant/foundry, and numerous storage/support buildings.
The naval dockyard is loceted on an artificial boat basin which had
depths of from 8 to 16 ft in 19948. Dredged depths of about 14 ft extend to
the entrance of the dry dock.

On the peninsula that forms and protects Ching-tao inner harbor.
This installation is one o' China's three major submarine bases.
Facilities include 3 quays, 1 small mole, 4 floating finger piers, a
probable heating plant, 1 probable barracks, a possible foundry, an
auditorium, 2 possible administration buildings, and at least 37 additional
support buildings.
This base is located along a wharf which has 3 faces. Depths alongside
these faces are: SE-27 ft, east 26-31+ ft, and NE 27-29 ft.

This installation is a minor base utilized to support small coastal
patrol units. Vessels observed to date include only LCM's and MSM's.
Facilities include 2 quays, 1 small mole, 1 floating pier, 1 probable
repair barge, and at least 15 support buildings.
Outer harbor depths in the bay are 3 to 8 fathoms. Inner harbor depths
at the main wharf in the port facilities are 24 ft. The mean annual tidal
range is 4+ ft.

This installation is one of several probable forward area deployment
bases recently observed in this small island group. Its capability is
limited to operational support --:':)r small combatants.
Facilities include 1 dog-leg pier/breakwater, 1 small breasting plat-
form, and 6 small support buildings.
Rocks and reefs lie offshore from the SE portion of Ta-chang-shan Tao.

In the SW portion of Lu-ta harbor.
This facility, for auxiliaries and small combatants, contains 2 moles,
4,000 ft of quayage, 1 end-haul marine railway serving a transverse repair-
way, 1 large administration building, 1 probable heat plant, 2 probable
foundries, 1 probable wa;'ehouse, and numerous small shop/support buildings.
An associated naval and civil boatyard contains 7 shops and 10 small shop/
support buildings.
Depths in the approaches to Lu-ta Harbor are over 10 fathoms while
those in the harbor range from 3 3/4 to 6 fathoms. Tidal rise is from
8 to l0 ft.

On the NW side of the Hsin-ying Chiang, 1.0 nm NW of Pai-ma-ching Port.
This installation is a minor base capable of supporting patrol craft.
No vessel maintenance facilities are observed.
Facilities include 2 offshore wharves and 10 support buildings.
Pai-ma-ching has a sheltered anchorage in 4 to 5 fathoms. A narrow
buoyed channel with a least known depth of 14 ft across a bar leads into the
Hsin-ying Chiang from the outer bay.
