INCREASED VEHICULAR ACTIVITY ON SUPPLY ROUTES
THROUGH MU GIA. PASS INTO SOUTH VIETNAM
Analysis of recent aerial photography reveals a significant increase
of vehicular activity on the heavily-used supply Routes 15 and 15l from
North Vietnam, through Laos, into South Vietnam. Trucks loaded with rocks
and large numbers of coolie laborers observed to be repairing and main-
taining Route 15 suggest an extensive effort is being made to keep this
important route serviceable. The North Vietnamese willingness to continue
large-scale resupply activity during daylight hours may indicate that the
heavy southward movement of supplies to South Vietnam is intended to support
enemy operations during any impending spring-summer campaign.
25X1 D Photography of - reveals approximately 65 POL tank/cargo trucks
north of the Mu Gia Pass on Routes 15 and 151 in North Vietnam (Figure 1).
Approximately 40 loaded trucks are observed heading south and additional
trucks are travelling north or are in the numerous, well-hidden truck parks
along the two routes. The traffic pattern indicates an intermittent flow
of trucks travelling mainly in small, well-dispersed groups. Open storage
of material and open POL drum storage is apparent along Route 151 (Figure 2).
The fact that this storage is open rather than concealed, as it is normally,
indicates a greater quantity and more rapid movement of supplies into
South Vietnam.
A newly identified open-wire telecommunications trace, generally
paralleling Route 151 (Figure 2), is another indication of the importance
recently placed on the movement of supplies to the south.
25X1 D Reports of a daily average of 47 trucks moving north and south during
the period between indicate an increase of nearly 100
percent above the previously reported figures for 25X1 D
