The Haiphong Cement Plant, severely damaged by airstrikes in April 1967, has been almost completely rebuilt. Six of the original seven horizontal rotary kilns were operational 2. Operations at the plant had been entirely stopped because of extensive damage. One of three rotary kiln buildings was destroyed, one was heavily damaged, and the other sustained minor damage. Two clinker storage buildings were heavily damaged and one moderately damaged. The coal treatment plant, the limestone crushing building, several warehouses, and numerous support buildings were moderately to heavily damaged. 3. Reconstruction of the plant has been slow. One kiln of the westernmost kiln building was repaired and operational This was the first indication of renewed production at the plant. The second kiln of this two-kiln unit was subsequently operational. I all three kilns of the easternmost kiln building were rebuilt and operating. smoke was coming from the stack of the central kiln building. One of the two kilns ot t is unit has been repaired and the other has been removed, possibly in preparation for replacement or repair. Thirteen kiln sections were on the transshipment quay to the east of the plant. 4. Other recent reconstruction included the addition of a new probable coal treatment plant, replacement of a previously destroyed large warehouse, and replacement of the damaged roof of the eastern clinker storage building. Foundations for additional new buildings indicated continuing construction at the facility.
