Trip Report - Raymond Stapleton and John Roat 17-18 August l~i~-F Companies Vistied: 1. The visit to was for the purpose of discussing proposed and additional changes on the ~+05B models of the Chip Compara- tor. Previously submitted by the contractor WeTheseowerd dis cussed anded just :prior to delivery ~~f the prototype 405A. accepted by the cca~.tract monitor as required changes. Questioned, however, was the cost of a number of the proposed changes, and a cost breakdown was asked for in these instances. Additional minor modifications were discussed and the contractor will submit a cost breakdown on these items. The stop-work order and its effect on contract delivery was gone over as well as the 0 interface. Owill furnish correct information on tree minimum and maximum output pulse values so that 0 can correlate their counters accordingly. Deliverable items under the ~+05A contract were discussed. 0 will submit an addendum to the operationa'1 and maintenance manual; will provide procurement data to the spare parts list. and tiaill submit the equipment drawings as soon as possible. was for the 2. The visit to 0 is purpose of determining contract progress on the Chip rin er. beginning to take hold and is showing progress in the preliminary design area. Their hold-up is and has been the lack of clearances for the necessary personnel.. Names have been submitted but clearances are not yet forthcoming. This has been taken up with the contracts people and is being followed closely. Several design ideas were presewould send on the fi]m-gate and transport system. If it is .determined this require- ment exists, the contractor feels this .should be a separate effort. Possibly this information is already available in some form through EK. 3.. The visit tol I was made to determine progress on the High Speed Coordinatograph. Progress is very satisfactory, there being the final electronic hook-ups and cheek-out to be made, control panel fabrication and exterior protective skins where required. It is anticipated that will be sent to 0 toward the middle of September for the purpose of electronic training on the instrument. It is also recommended that TID send a person at the same time -~o learn the operational and mechanical maintenance aspects of the instrument. Delivery of the plotter can be made anytime after 30 September 1964. The contractor has intentionally lengthened final fabrication and electronic assembly (original delivery date was 1 June 1964) at the request of the project monitor. This was done to insure a well designed operable instrument since time was available due to lack of building facilities. The estimate for installation facilities completion is now 1 Oc;tober 1964, therefore 0 has been advised to submit a request for contract extension to that date. ~+. A visit by a was extended to visit the installation STATOTH R "Project; MAC". This is an experimental set-up to determine man-computer interface, methods of making computer time more available to the average company, development of compilers to translate everyday problems into ~ STATOTH R computer language, and a score of other problems common to present day computer use. The 7094 computer is the work horse with 120 remote sta- tions, one in to presenf queries. A total of 25 stations can be operating at the wane time, therefore, priorities have been established for time-sharing. The pro- - blem is sent in by teletypewriter, translated and stored on disc drums. From then on depending on time available and priority, the computer goes from problem to prob~gn, very seldom there being time to go through one complete problem without priority interruption. I was told the computer works on an average of two tenths of a minute each time on each problem. Each user is billed only that time required to complete his computation. STATOTH R It is recommended well worth the time of any visitors in the STATOTH R area to see the Project MAC het-up,. Contact can be made through the undersigned or with Q personnel Approved For Release 2007/07/25: CIA-RDP78B04747A000400040041-5
