The Model 621 Comparator was acquired by the Technical Intelligence Division a num er of years ago. Subsequently, the state 25X1A of the art and the quality of the current photography necessitates modification of this instrument. The primary need is to increase the magnification of the viewing system comparable to that of the 880 Comparator. In addition, the light source must be altered to be compatible to the increase in magnification. 25X1A 2. The feasibility of these modifications has been discussed with members of your Staff and representatives of the It is agreed that these can be readily accomplished. 3. At the time that these modifications are made it is advisable to have the instrument inspected by technicians of the an2.5X1A refurbished as found necessary. On two occasions the ins rumen as been exposed to conditions inducing rusting which are suspected to have caused certain damage and reduced the accuracy of the instrument. 3. It is requested that action be expedited to accomplish this modification as quickly as possible. It is TIDis intent to improve the capability of the 621 _ Comparator to support PI mensuration require- ments during the interim period that new, more advanced stereocomparators are being developed. Thus, it is important that this modification be accomplished soon utilizing currently available items rather than engage in any research and development effort.
