The trip wa.s made primarily a,s a.n orientation trip for to a.cqua.int him with the facilities and personnel a,t 2. Areas of discussion concerned design of the mecha'nica'l aspects of the plotter, servodrives and electronic design. The mecha.nica.l design a.ppea,rs to be well along and the contractor anticipates no problems in this area,. The servodrives will be commercially available servomotors with modi- fied drives to obtain the required speed of 1000" per minute. Lead screws - seven foot by 12 or 2" diameter - one thread per inch. A discussion on the a.dvisibility of using servodrives over hydraulic-drive ensued. Tt is felt considerable design work a.nd brea.dboa.rding will be required to attain the speed and a.ccura.cy pa.rametdrs a.s stated in the requirements. Interface between the special purpose computer (electronics) a.ssocia.ted with the plotter a.nd the facility general purpose computer wa,s discussed. It is somewhat early in the contract life to arrive a.t a.ny firm decisions on computer interface. However, it is gratifying to known these problems a,re recognized a.nd will be phased into the program a.t the a.ppropria.te ti~~e. 3. Commitments were that the Agency would provide the necessary vacuum for operation of the plotter. will investigate paper holders, spindles, feed and take-up spooling. ^ will also design some sort of cutter - permanently attached - either a slot w~ra.zor or wire t.pe. Should be very inexpensive and no a.dditiona,l cost to contract. ~+. Insta, lla.tion wa.s discussed a.t length. Contract ca.11s for normal insta.lla.tion, however, due to the size elevators in the building, the plotter will have to be assembled a.t the operation site. This possibly means dis- assembly after plant check-out, shipment, installation a.nd assembly. A11 of which could result in a.dditiona,l contract costs. Component weights, sizes etc., will be furnished by the contractor so that necessary arrangements for GSA personnel a.nd equipment can be planned for unloading and installing.
