By the ti> it was c,pleted, however, many improvements such as mensuration as +~a11 as greater optical and scanning versatility had bocce fenoible through recent. advancemnts in electromopticaal teehnoloy. 1.8 The subject instrument, designated model No. 552A-101, Serial No. 103, was developed from Proposal No. 552A of July 1963 for as improved version of the model 387 viewer. STATINTL 2. DESCRIPTION 2.1 The High Precision Stereo Viewer is a fiber optic direct viewer with couremeni: capability. Film transparencies in roll or chip form and of diffaront:ial scales and orientations may be scanned and nsured in stereo over dual 9 x 18 inch formats. The optical system provides wide ver?satilit,y available at the eyepiece aseembly (Figure 2) along with inde ndently variable zoom gnification of 1.6 to 128 ti aa. The i,notru at :Lo comprised of three caster mounted units. The viewing conoolev, or major unit with felt padded leveling jacks is 92 inches long DECLASS REVIEW by NIMA/DOD Approved For Release 2002/01/02: CIA-RDP78B04747A0021000gRR244 use (1) Approved'- Release 2002/01/02: CIA-RDP78Bf 7AO02100090006-4 available for the T'elecordexe to rive y0d;33 t: ear,-:. ?. aay:rthol capability and r?e?dit_ior l ,Ui.s readers. CONCLUSIONS 6.1 The High Precision Stereo Viewer is entirely useful in its present fc. m for ?evy photographic interpretation use, 6.2 This viewer offers goorl optical c,ualit~, and versatility for use in detailed photo interpzetaation. The hJgt, resolution stereo viewing versatility and, measuring capabilities of hio unit could make it a key inotru nt th helping to mike the ta.ansitxr2n from present hand methodo to c ?uterizeei real time photo inter-pre tril: ion. 7.1 It is recorended that the viewer be used operationally within the 4cand for. detailed photo interpretation. 7.2 It is ream nded that the Center continue to investigate possible it preset nto in the viewer itself as well as mensuration techniques and pro3rat .o to widen they utility and application of the inourt=ant.
