Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO02200010021-4 15 February in,67 552 - O13-321 object: Gentlemen Progress Report January 1967 - Projects 552 and 5524, Enclosed are three (3) copies of Progress 25X1 Report on Projects 552 and 552A for the period January 1967. Very truly yours 25X1 Executive Vice President Inc. (3) P. R. Cart #855549 DECLASS REVIEW by NGA Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO02200010021-4 25X1 Approved or Release - - 13 February 1967 552-552A-OD-319 PROGRESS REPORT - 552 and 552A for January 1967 552 #101 Trip was made 26 January to prepare laser equipment for return shipment to factory and replace transistors in reg- ulator circuits. Laser power supplies and heads will be mod- ified and returned to customer early in February. 552A #102 During trip made 26 January, inspection of this system was made. The following was observed: a) Left channel would move + and -X and -Y only. Joy- stick output OK and direction relays were OK. Found a circuit card in "Slo-Syn" translator faulty and when replaced, normal oper- ation was seen. b) Right channel barely move + or -Y axis. Joystick output and direction relays OK. Time allotment ran out preventing further study of right channel. An estimate to correct anticipated problems above, has been prepared and forwarded to customer. 552A #103 A trip was made January 19-20 to replace repaired joy- stick potentiometer. Joystick was refurbished together with repair of problems with left objective turret, right zoom mag- nifier, right dot reticle, widening scanning limits, reduction of film scratching with rear holddown and manufacture of more comfortable gear selector switch operator. At conclusion of the visit, equipment was to begin the two week trial period for acceptance. 552A #104 Image Alternator and Power Assist Film Drive are in- Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO02200010021-4 25X1 stalled and operating with a few "bugs" remaining in the film drive circuitry. Problems plaguing scanning drive electronics have debugged to allow completion in early February. Principal difficulty was to discover cause for damaged joystick potentiometers. Induced transients from adjacent circuits appear to be the culprit and have now been effectively reduced for safe operation of scanning systen. With the favorable scanning drive situation completion in February is assured. Final timing on optics and other sub-systems can now proceed for completion. CIA_RDP78B04747A0022 0010 2114 PROGRESS REPORT For 552/552A for December 1966 Period Covered: December 1966 Dated: January 16, 1967 Job No.: 552/552A Document No.: OD - 316 Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78B04747A002200010021-4 25X1 PROGRESS REPORT 552, 552A FOR DECEMBER 1966 The following work has been done on these systems: 552 #101 Mercury displacement relays to interrupt laser high voltage has been received and is in a test circuit to check its performance. These relays will require modification of laser power supplies for their mounting. Power transistors to replace marginally rated units in laser reticle drive circuit have been received and are ready to be installed in system. To install relays we are making plans to return laser power supplies to factory. This will assure minimum interuption of customers equipment area. Transistor replacement and laser checkout at customers shop will follow completion of relay rework at factory. 552A #103 Service call to search out repeated failure in scanning drive was made early in December. An open joystick potentiometer proved to be the trouble and was sent promptly to its manufacturer for repair. Potentiometer is expected to be installed in January. At that time joystick mechanism will be thoroughly adjusted and checked out. 552A #104 Installation work on 'Image Alternator and Power Assist Film Drive is advancing well. Image Alternator is wired and will be checked out in January. Film Drive modification has wiring and mechanical assembly about 70% completed. Work on film drive is expected to be completed in January. Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78B04747A002200010021-4 Approved FRelease 2004/03/26: CIA-RDP78B04`74,7A002200010021-4 Page 2 A continuing problem in scanning drive has prevented completion of its adjustment. After damaging (2) joystick potentiometers due to excessive output currents, an intensive search for the circuit fault is being made to prevent further dam- age. Resolving this difficulty will determine when system is ready for shipment, hopefully by the end of January. Enclosure - Financial Report 25X1 Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78BO4747AO02200010021-4 PROGRESS REPORT For 552/552A for November 1966 Period Covered: November 1966 Dated: December 12, 1966 Job No.: 552/552A Document No.: OD - 313 Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78B04747A002200010021-4 25X1 PROGRESS REPORT 552, 552A FOR OCTOBER 1966 The following has been the work on these systems: 552 #101 No action has been taken on proposed methods for measure- ment improvement. 552A #102 No action has been taken on proposed attack on scanning drive problem. Other work to check over optics remains to be done in a service cell. 552A #103 Customer has informed us of repeated failures in scanning drive with relation to length of "on" time where acceptable operation after 3 to 4 hours of "warm up". Other times instrument required no such preparation for use. A service call will be made early in December to trace this problem out. 552P #104 Work has advanced on image alternator, film drive and system adjustment and debugging. Image alternator is moored ar}d electrically operable. Wires for power input have to be installed into existing harness and transformer supplying power has to.be installed. Detailing of film drive components has been nearly com- pleted with many parts already for assembly. Electrical harness conversion is underway to bring power into film drive motor amplif- iers and to writing. The electrical work will continue during. December as well as other system electrical work in scanning drive. Optical adjustments should be completed in December leaving film drive modification and system debugging left for late December and January. plc prov I 1 ft1 1 se $IJ I26 : CIA-RDP78B04747A002200010021-4
