Evaluation of Projected) Scale Micrometer, o.e_ 2. This device was evaluated by a number of IAD ajnalysts, representative of all IAD branches, and the following comments are submitted for your consideration: a. The reticule is very clear and the addition of the counter aids greatly in reading distances. The readings being made directly in feet is a desirable feature. This memorandum is in confirmation of the verbal comments made SS/IAD, to of your staff, regarding the rojec e Scale Microme er, o el II. b. The lamp housing which provides illumination for the reticule tends to become excessively hot during sustained use. c. A slight slippage was noticed in the drum dividing each rotation into 100 parts. d. Too much margin for error in ascertaining the; proper alignment of the plane of the reticule with that of the phottograph. e. The micrometer screw drive knob is very stiffi--precluding very fine measurements. f. The half inch movement limitation and the awkward procedure necessary to cause the present bisecting line to travel from one object to another could be improved. g. The instruction booklet accompanying the geariis very poorly written, and would be improved by the addition ofia keyed photograph or line drawing of the instrument illustrating eabh of the operational parts.
