SUBJECT: Pre-Acceptance Tests of the

7-12 April or e purpose of
witnessing pre-acceptance tests of the reworked pro-
cessor. The trip was extended by one day in order o compete
the planned test program. This was caused by the contractor not
having the machine completely ready for tests and because of sev-
eral design failures made evident by the test program.
2. After an overall examination of the processor, tests
were made for accuracy of machine controls, detrimental surface
effects due to tracking, processing uniformity, gamma control,
film drying, and for solution carryover between tank modules.
These tests progressed rather slowly because of reasons given
above.
3. Test results show that many problem areas and contract
work statement discrepancies exist with the Processor
in its present configuration. Major of these are, ~i,l the pro-
cessor will not process film with uniformity, (2) will not dry
film sufficiently, (3) requires externally supplied pre-heated
replenishment chemicals at constant high temperatures thereby
necessitating sophisticated support equipment, and (4) the pro-
cessor requires considerable attention just to maintain it in
an operating mode.
1. It is my opinion that the Processor requires
major redesign and fabrication before any a itional testing is
justified. This may not be desirable since some of the original
major design concepts have been lost or proven unsuccessful in
the development of the processor up to this time.
