II. Background
The Plans and Development Staff, NPIC, under Contract 25X1
had designed and built 25X1
a, prototype Chip Comparator. This instrument, delivered and
installed in July 1964, has far exceeded the design goal of a
two micron measuring capability. One-quarter micron repeata-
bility, although not yet proven, is felt to be attainable by
the Photo Interpreter with limited training and practice. As
a, result three more instruments are under contract with a fourth
