Enlarger. Often, 9" film-widths are enlarged to maximum magnification,
and under these conditions only the middle six inches of the imagery can be

been determined that no such modification has previously been carried out.

With the nlarger at maximum magnification, it is
pi
mpossible to enlarge the edge portions of any roll film which is wider than six
inches. It would be highly desirable for the operator to have thebapab~lity of
moving the film perpendicularly to the translation axis in order to position
the film over the field of the projection lens. The complete film transport
assembly must be moved to accomplish this task. This will require modification
of at least two large enlarger head castings. The modification will enable the
operator to enlarge any portion of 9" roll film to maximum magnification.

the necessary castings. They will machine the raw castings to match
the particular enlarger which has been designated for modification and will
then modify these castings to suit the requirements. When the modification
25X1A has been completed, will remove the existing negative carriage assembly
from the enlarger an install and align the modified assembly. This prodedure
will insure that the downtime of the instrument is kept to an absolute minimum.
To achieve the capability of enlarging any portion of the imagery, the
film spool holders will be integrated into the film gate which together can
be translated in a direction perpendicular (AJ.) to the direction of present
film translation (x). The amount of travel in this, axis will be at least
? 1.5 inches from the present position. To move the assembly, the operator
will simply turn a knob located on the negative film carriage and this action
will translate the assembly to the proper position in such a manner that the
desired imagery can then be projected on the copy easel. The use of the modified
assembly will not destroy or degrade any of-.the unique capabilities or the
high resolving power of the original instrument. ill maintain the 25X1A
same quality of workmanship characteristic of the original 25X1A
This contractor was selected from a rou of seventeen companies of
which five chose to propose. Of these five, proposal was 25X1A
competitive in design philosophy, and, in ad n, ey were the lowest bidder.
This contract is to be negotiated on an = Confidential basis. The 25X1A
required security measures are not yet in effect at the contractor's plant;
however, appropriate company officers have agency Secret clearances.
