Major Dubes was given a copy of the Philco Publication No. U-2270,
"Image Computer Systems Analysis and. Timing", which describes the
simulations and analysis of a type of image processing system called
a Natural Image Computer.

Image Registration. The instrument had been partially disassem e
and the X parallax control was not operating. However, Y parallax
corrections were accomplished in an acceptable manner. The image was
much better than I had anticipated. Part of this was probably due to
the use of a crossed diagonal scan instead of the conventional hori-
zontal scan. The lines are not as noticeable on the diagonal scan.
Magnification ranged from 16 to 1 and the instrument was
capable of automatically matching scale for stereo registration at a
ratio of 2 to 1. The transport system is air supported on the glass
surface of a table and air :Ls pW ed tothe underside of circular
ovo pads by a small compressorapprox tely 21 pound pressure. An operator
energizes the transport by grasping the handle in a manner so as to
close a small exhaust port, thus diverting the air to the pads. This
raises the pads above the glass surface and permits the transport to
move freely. When the handle is released, the transport drops onto
the glass surface.
When queried, stated that he plans to work with
oblique and panoramic photo raphy. The requirement for 900 image ro-
tation was discussed and appeared to understand the
diverse formats which the instrument should be able to handle.
