Conduct study of automated system for more efficient transfer of information between PI and Photo Lab personnel. PROPOSAL 2. Introduction: a. For some time, the transfer of accurate information from the photo interpreter to the laboratory technician for printing and enlarging of selected areas in small scale, high-resolution photography has been a serious problem. Inaccurate information transfer or lack of understanding causes delay and increased remake requirements. b. A carefully integrated data and material handling system, utilizing existing computer and communication facilities where appropriate, could improve the speed and reliability with which requests for prints, enlargements and mensuration can be satisfied. 3. Approach: We propose to conduct a study of the customer's require- ments to determine the specifications of such a system. Initially a man will be assigned to the customer's facilities to observe the problem and existing equipment firsthand. After consultation with the customer's staff, we will prepare an outline of a system which will be compatible with present equip- ment and easy to operate reliably with the required accuracy. A final re- port will be prepared describing the recommended system and the requirements for any additional equipment which would be needed. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES 4. Study and issue a report on the feasibility and applicability of an integrated data and material handling system.
