Declass Review by NGA.

I am pleased to submit this monthly progress report on contract
for the period 15 May to 15 June 1970.
On approximately the 20th of May we received word from the COTR that the leak
detector was satisfactory. However, an additional requirement has developed
for the viewer drive assembly that it be more stable. Stability criteria
were not discussed in the original modification requirement and had not been
a part of II proposal for the contract. Nevertheless, it appears that
increasing the stability of the drive assembly may not be an insurmountable
problem provided we can get some data regarding the magnitude of the vibration
problem and an indication of how much of it'can be corrected by increasing the
stability of the viewer assembly. Accordingly, on May 25, we requested some
measurement data from the COTR to assist us in evaluation of the problem.
These data were supplied on June 11th and we proceeded to change the modifi-
cation to the viewer assembly to provide the desired stability.
We plan to complete the installation of the new viewer assembly modification
within the next two weeks.
As soon as the Government has completed its evaluation and notified us of
acceptance we will begin modification of Units 2, 3, and 4.
At this stage it is now impossible to complete modification of all four units
by June 30, the current expiration date of the contract. Accordingly, we have
initiated a request under separate cover to extend the contract to provide
additional time for the modification of the remaining units.

I am pleased to submit this monthly progress report on contract
for the period 15 April'to 15-May 1970.
We received the parts for the viewer drive mechanism and completed the assembly
of the precision drive modification. The new assembly and the leak. detector
were installed on the 1Fhip Comparator on May 1.
The modification is now being evaluated br-th.e COTR and we. are. awaiting Govern-
ment acceptance before starting work on modification for Units-2, 3 and 4.

During this period we made substantial progress on both. phases of the modifi-
cation of the Chip Comparator. The GFP lamp cooling assembly and the viewer
drive mount assembly were received and used to design the modifications.
The leak detector for the lamp cooling system is complete and ready for instal-
lation. However, the ball screw drive for the viewer assembly is about two
weeks behind schedule because of a delay in receiving parts.
During the next period we will install both_modifications_on the.fi.rst Chip
Comparator and check out both the. leak.de.tector for the, lamp cooling system
and ball screw drive for the viewer ass-emb.ly'. Upon Government acceptance of
these modifications we will be ready to proceed with_ the modifications to
Units 2, 3 and 4.
I am pleased to submit this monthly progress report on contract
for the period 15 March to 15 April 1970.
