Approved W MEMORANDUM FOR: Chairman, Technical Development Committee THROUGH Executive Secretary - TDC SUBJECT REFERENCE PROBLEM: To fund the overrun on the Linear Phasolver development contract. FACTS: The NPIC is currently under contract with the to develop a new measuring sensor technique known as the linear phasolver. The scope of this contract is to prove the feasibility of the concept and to produce a working breadboard of a one axis system. Thus far they have proven the feasibility of the system and are currently working on building the breadboard. Technical progress thus far has been highly satisfactory. However certain problems have arisen which have required higher caliber engineers than anticipated in the original proposal, and in difficulties in obtaining S component parts from subcontractors of the necessary quality. The principal problem areas have been in locating glass blanks of sufficient flatness and having the necessary patterns lofted on them with the required flatness. In addition some of the initial special test circuitry was found to be marginal and additional engineering and material was required to improve its perfor- mance. CONCLUSION: The performance demonstrated thus far indicates that there should be no problems in bringing the program to a successful completion within these funds.
