SUBJECT: T i t t
1. On the 4th of March 1964 the-undersigned visited the
o review the
progress of
the Linear a.so ver and discuss the proposal which they are preparing
as a follow-on to the Pha.solver work.
2. No major problems have been encountered in the Pha.solver program,
however, they have encountered difficulty in obtaining glass blanks of
appropriate flatness. They are now investigating several alternate
methods of obtaining the required flatness by less costly techniques.
The proposed completion date has been delayed due primarily to man-
power availability problems and the slow response on the part of the
subcontractors. The next Monthly Progress Report is to reflect a
realistic completion and demonstration date.
3. As a, potential follow-on to the successful completion of the
present contract,I has been working withi on
a proposal for a. comparator with a measuring stage o by ;;~.]
The design they are proposing is an air bearing engine with a granite
base similar to the DSMP. The readout resolution would be 1 micron or
better. Still unresolved is whether to use or
direct optical viewing. is
acting as their consulta viewing problem. present they
plan to submit a preliminary proposal to determine our interest and
allow us to review their design concept. They do not necessarily
propose to build the measuring engine but would probably prefer to
work with someone with experience in this field.
