MEMORANDUM FOR: Chief, CIA/PID (NPIC)
SUBJECT . NPIC Target Recognition vs. Ground Resolution
Experiment
1. The subject experiment, which is designed to provide the
Director, NPIC, with critical data for guidance in making recom-
mendations for future reconnaissance collection systems, has
progressed to the point where operational photo interpreters are
needed for active participation.
2. The first phase of the experiment has been established on
a. base which will require one day's effort by each of sixty photo
interpreters. To make the results more realistic in terms of actual
operational work, the photo interpreters selected should have a
minimum of one year's experience interpreting system-type photography.
3. To ease the management of the experiment and reduce the
possibility of interference with operational work, it is planned to
accommodate eight subjects in the experiment per day. To further
assure the realism of results, a cross-section of interpreters is
being requested, divided by parent organizations as follows:
CIA/PID - 15 men
DIA/DIAAP-lP - 15 men
NPIC/PAG - 30 men, half CIA and half DIA.
4. Your coo eration with the res onsible team members is requested.
will be directing the effort with the support of
of &DS, of CIA/PID, and I lof DD/S&T.
