During normal PI operations the technique of obtaining maximum information from photography is predicated upon an individual's ability to manipulate the image from in-focus to a certain degree of defocus. Vertical im ery displaced along the X-axis requires adjustment in =uV o i entify or view tall objects examples: antennae, towers). In view of these factors it is the consensus of FAG that the automatic focusing capability unless adjustable, may be undesirable. 25X1 Colonel, USA Assistant for Photographic Analysis, NPIC Distribution: 2 - Addressee 1 - Asst/PA 1 - IPO/PAG/NPIC Approved For Release 2003/01/28 : CIA-RDP78BO477OA002000040002-5 Approved For Release 2003/01/28: CIA-RDP78B04770A002000040002-51,- ''&- 0'c7,4;/? 251 DATE October 4, 1967 Please acknowledge receipt of four copies of Monthly Progress Report 15 August to 15 September " ut tic F_nrus ngrRe~r-~c'rPPn P ecmi7 t to Approved For Release 2003/01/28 : CIA-RDP7S> ~RNf OA002000040002-5 LTE ~i~ L~ 1 s 25X1 Approved For Release 2003/01/28 : CIA-RDP78B04770A002,000 REPLY REQUESTED DATE l ^% SPEED LETTER YES NO LETTER N"O . ~,~`J/'-' II, TO R' ft I _.D e.~ FROM: ATTN: 47- 'r~ /~~' G'{?~L~C-/~./Ci`~a~ l (~. t / G 1./-Y`"~+,~_/ _ i /.- , l ~ l,~1./l.{.%1~ ~ \ ~'Y/~ / . .... ,t ~, 2 REPLY DATE .-~~~.~ , ~-t , r ~!'~ Cpl f ?- ~~ ./1.t~. 1.~ Z_- ..~''^/i= /~-L-'' /l."'~-- /v~CG t-G-f,..[.~/ ~~ ~'L~"~- ~'~'?,vL C~c ~.=- "~"~, ~ 251 Approved For Release 0 FORM ...- . Successful operation at 3X magnification and at :film scanning speeds from 0 to 4 inches per second was achieved. Quantitative performance data was taken at 3X magnification with the film .stationary and at a nominal film scanning speed of 2 inches per second. During the scanning mode at 3X magnification the 27 by 27 inch screen imago is hold in focus such that a screen resolution better than 8 linos per millimotor is assured. When the film is stopped the servo is capable of maintaining the correct lops to film position for exact focus to within 0.0005 inches. This will permit a high power (20X) examination of the 3X screen image (total magnification 60X) in a central area where a small section of the screen has been removed. No focusing of the magnifier is required between repeated starts and stops of the film drive. Completion of the data taking and preparation of the final report will be accomplished during January with the final report due to be printed in February.
