DIGITAL READOUT COUNTERS
On the current contract activity for counters, all
work is complete except for retrofit of changes
to one counter returned to from your shop for
the purpose. The retrofit is scheduled for
completion by the end of March.

When visited our shop on
March _ he examined the detector
heads on the comparators and obtained the in-
formation necessar E to design the ulse shaping
network. For the achines, II is proposing
to supply a standar counter for each of the four axes
and a card punch coupler. The control panel and counters
will be identical to previously delivered units.
He will also supply an input box which will accept
the count pulses from the four grids, shape
the pulses and put out standardized pulses to
the four counters. Such an arrangement will provide
maximum flexibility and interchangeability between
previously delivered counters and the new counters.
said that the requirement for an online
capa i ity of these machines had been deleted,
therefore no synchronizer would be required with
these counters.
Whenl -1 was in your shop he worked with
o the i.ntenance Section to trouble shoot
the error/acknowledge problem at the computer/counter
interface. They found that there was an inversion
of the 1,0 binary code on the 4-axis system and
corrected it. They were unable to complete the trouble
shooting of the 2-axis system however because the
computer was tied up. It was evident that a
simulator was needed for both Maintenance and Manu-
facture.will prepare a proposal to design
and build a simulator which will provide a storage
register, word display, and will return an error or

acknowledge pulse to the counter. Thus it will not
be necessary to tie up the computer to check out
new equipment or perform maintenance on the old
equipment.
