Period of Time Covered, Beginning on I J+.ly 191Q. and continuing until 1 October 1969, Principal Invest1 Bator. Research Engineer and. Associate Director, General Backgrounds The has been condt?:c:t .ng, under funding from the Central ; ntel.iigence Ngeucy ;"Contract Mal a continuing program of research in the restoration of degraded photographic images by means of computer processing. Fuild . ing in response to Proposal overed a 3-month period end- ing 1 July 19b9.. The present propose calls for a continuation of the effort from 1 July 1969 to 1 October 1969. The following is a brief de- scription of the status of the. several, tasks which have rece ivy-d effort in the course of this research program. Task I: On-Line Computer Oration, The research program utilizes an IBM-1800 computer which is leased with. the cost equally shared by the Central Intelligence Agency and the Advanced Research Projects Agency The sometimes finds it efficient to utilize time on the IBM- 1800 when available, for work on other Laboratory contracts- oor grants., When this is done, the appropriate cost of that time is recharged to the contract or grant involved, Substantial progress ha.s been made in achieving flexible and efficient software for performing the image processing research, The utilization of the computer has been dramatically increased by the development of an un- attended night operation in which the computer receives its instructions from cards rather than the keyboard The instructions are still. given in the language of image processing, and techniques have been developed duicih that the cards are easy to prepare: STAT STAT STAT Approved For Release 2003/08/05: CIA-RDP78B05171A0?8 ft1tr-W by NIMA/DOD Approved For M lease 2003/08/05 : CIA-RDP78BO5171M00300030016-7 to i u e Page Two E a una'btended cad.,rl mode of operation has been supplemented by mhe addition of a 35 mm camera whose shutter and film advarce rxxec fs,a., iasx-~s are corr..pute-.- controlled.
