Request for Support
1. In order to pursue the in-house light table development under
Project No. 02278, a limited number of specially machined parts will be
required. The development technique being employed dictates that each
of these parts be manufactured as needed, rather than all at one time.
2. It is requested, in the interest of economy, that the DED
technical monitor for this project, be authorized to
schedule the limited machining required, direct with the Chief, Equip-
ment Performance Branch. Such a procedure should cause a minimum of
interference with established routine and expedite the production of
the parts.
3. At various times during this project, assembly of the specially
machined parts with off-the-shelf procured items will be necessary, e.g.,
assembly of simple gear trains. The machining required at those times
will be limited to occasional drilling of gear hubs and shafts for sub-
sequent pinning. It is noted that such machining is usually a nuisance
in a commercial production shop, therefore very expensive.
4. Since these latter machining operations are within the capability
of the DED technical monitor, it is requested that he be allowed to
perform the assembly operation in the small shop located in the Test and
Evaluation Branch space. Use of this shop will be on a not-to-interfere-
with-normal-routine basis.
