SPEED LETTER REPLY REQUESTED DATE 6 November 1 970 I VES J No - - LETTER NO. IEG 360-70 TO : Executive Director, NPIC 71 FROM: ATTN: Chief, Imagery Exploitation Group, NPIC SUBJECT: MT/ST Typewriters 1. As you know, IEG is most anxious to get MT/ST equipment on board, and, consequently, have been following the progress of the Center's request through PSD rather closely. I gather PSD has recommended that we procure one MT/ST and one Composer immediately and after 30 days trial proceed to order the rest. I gather they also would like to sell us on passing MT/ST tapes to PSD for output on their photo composition equipment. 2. I can see little advantage of obtaining one set of equipment for 30 days of experimentation. All shops that are using the equipment agree that it takes much longer than 30 days for operators to become facile with the equipment. This procedure, I believe, would only serve to delay installation of equipment which has proven to be highly successful in other Agency applications. 3. We are skeptical concerning the turn-around time should we have to turn MT/ST tapes over to PSD for composition. OER has found PSD services unsatisfactory for meeting deadlines and for this reason, among others, has c uired MT/ST composers of their own. 25 REPLY E DECLASS REVIEW by NGA TURE 9GNA - , Approved or Release ; U 91-14 5.61' 1831 ,"W IWAW Approved For Release 2004/03/26 : CIA-RDP78B05703A000200010009-4 SECRET (When Filled in)
