Approved For Release 2004/02/11 : CIA-RDP78B05703A000300010035-4 04MA " FOR TPX- RECORD S1AIFCT: Imagery Information Technology NPIC's programs for improving and adding to its capabilities for automated handling of information include plans to investigate further the possibilities of enhancing the speed, ease and accuracy with which photointerpreters, editors, supervisors and other professional personnel work with increasing amounts of textual and graphics data, both for analytical and report production purposes. NPIC's aim is to adapt or develop AlP systems for such purposes which will enable the Center to cope with and exploit increasing aamarunts of data at no increase in manpower. We call this area of our programs Imagery Information Technology. plan to pursue this aim along two related lines of development followed by procurement. One line of this ADP effort emphasizes enhance- ment of the exploitation process. This encompasses the recall and reference to past missions, revious analyses, and Imagery-relevant collateral information. A significant step in automating this work is being taken by the Center through the establishment of the Integrated Information System. Further efforts along this line will be directed toward upgrading and expanding that system to meet requirements over the next five years and beyond. The second line of effort will be directed at automating the editing, graphic production, and report generation portion of the exploitation process. Unlike the analytical phase, little has been done previously along this line. For the F 72-76 Plarming period, we have proposed a total 25X1 25X1 or equipment, to expenaea on Imagery Information ogy. se gores are general estimates based on our past and present experiences with the costs of such development and procurement, not on any certain knowledge of what specific development or procurement alternatives will be chosen three to six years from now. From our experiences we do anticipate that much of the procurement costs will be for the software which accompanies the equipment hardware.
