S. exports to the Soviet Union, and petroleum refinement and extraction equip- ment. After conferring with OCI, I advised Abrams that we .would be unable to provide him with information on U. S. exports and I 25X1 suggested that he contact the Commerce Department. Abrams said he thought that this would be the case but said he was having an extremely difficult time in getting any information on this subject and then requested information on Soviet production of petroleum refining and extraction equipment. I said I would have to check and get back to him. 6. Senator Clark does not now contemplate contacting stations en route but may change his mind and the cable will so alert the stations. Y. ), called requesting a briefing for the Representative, to prepare him for a trip he plans to trip is to examine the possibilities for peace in the Middle East and what role the new Administration might play.
