LIAISON Richard Abrams, on the staff
of Representative Harold Ford (D., Tenn.), called to request information. on
U. S. exports to the Soviet Union, and petroleum refinement and extraction equip-
ment. After conferring with OCI, I advised Abrams that we
.would be unable to provide him with information on U. S. exports and I 25X1
suggested that he contact the Commerce Department. Abrams said he
thought that this would be the case but said he was having an extremely
difficult time in getting any information on this subject and then requested
information on Soviet production of petroleum refining and extraction
equipment. I said I would have to check and get back to him.
6. LIAISON I called Jack Brady, Chief

Mike Van Dusen and George Berdes, of the House International Relations
Committee staff, had indicated they would like to discuss a sensitive

Elaine Christofferson, in the Reno office of Senator Paul Laxalt
(R. , Nevada). She said that was still bugging the
Reno office and asked if we could call him and talk to him to see if
we can get him off their back. She thought that all he needed was
direct contact and that would satisfy him; since he feels he is getting
no hearing from anybody. His home phone numbe

called saying that Moose would like to respond to Senator Dick Clark's

1. RIEFING Richard Gibney, in the 25X1'
office of Representative Stephen J. Solarz (D. , N. Y. ), called requesting
a briefing for the Representative, to prepare him for a trip he plans to
trip is to examine the possibilities for peace in the Middle East and what
role the new Administration might play. The week of 6 December 1976
was set as a time for the briefing. OCI, has been advised.

Senate Appropriations Committee staff, to confirm the meeting for tomorrow
afternoon at Headquarters, 1:00 p.m., for a preview of his upcoming
trip abroad.
6. FAA ALERT Called the following
people to alert. them to the 16 November 1976 Presidential finding,
Frank Slatinshek, Chief Counsel, House Armed Services Committee;
John Brady, Chief of Staff, House International Relations Committee;
Ralph Preston, House Appropriations Committee staff, and Chuck Snodgrass,
also on the Committee staff, but they were absent from the office and I was
unable to reach them at home. A message was left at Messrs. Preston
and Snodgrass' offices to call me.

1. ADMINISTRATIVE - DELIVERIES
I delivered personal letters from the Director to the offices of Senators
Henry Bellmon (R., Okla,) and Adlai E. Stevenson (D., Ill.).
2. I BRIEFING I briefed Clark McFadden, Senate
Armed Services Committee staff, on the latest Presidential finding. His
only comment was that the briefing of the full Committee might illicit
questions as to how this equipment might be used in ways not intended,
particularly with respect to the repression of human rights.
3. BRIEFING I briefed Jack Brady, Chief of
Staff, House International Relations Committee, on the latest Presidential
finding.
4.1 BRIEFING I briefed Ralph Preston and
Charles Snodgrass, both on the House Committee on Appropriations staff,
on the latest Presidential finding. (See Memo for the Record. )
