Communist military activity remains relatively high throughout
widespread sectors of.South Vietnam, with an appreciable increase
of small-scale shellings and ground attacks in the northern prov-
inces. The recent upsurge in fighting in the central and southern
portions of the delta follows the pattern of a Communist highpoi.nt
there during the middle or last half of each month.
The North Vietnamese launched a tank-led assault on April 28
against a government outpost--Long Khot,--located at the Cambodian
border in Ken Tuong Province. The province capital was also rockete

A Communist defector, recently claimed that Long Khot was
targeted for regimental-size attacks. The action was most likely
timed to interrupt on-going government clearing operations in
T'ay Ninh and Long An provinces as well as the week-long armored
thrust into the ParrotIs Beak of Cambodia, which began on
April 29.
