Approved For Release 2006/10/18: CIA-RDP78S02149R000100050032-9 "ARMY Declass/Release Instructions On File" Approved For Release 2006/10/18: CIA-RDP78S02149R000100050032-9 Approved For Release 2006/10/18: CIA-RDP78SO2149R000100050032-9 TOP SECRET 1. (TS) During the period July-October 1965, 41,103 US and 10,089 VNAF sorties were flown in support of operations in SVN (Tab C). US combat aircraft losses during this period totaled 24 and are valued at 22 million dollars. The VNAF sustained the loss of 1 aircraft. 2. (TS) The number of sorties flown in October exceeded those flown in September by 10 percent; however, the cost of the munitions delivered in October was more than twice the cost of the munitions delivered in September (Tabs A and B). The primary reason for this cost difference is attributed to the wide variance in the number of 20mm rounds reported in the September vs October expenditures. The total cost of 20mm rounds expended in October was 15.8 million dollars as compared to 4.9 million dollars for September. It is believed that this difference resulted from a more accurate report of 20mm rounds expended in October. 3. (TS) Sufficient data were not available for estimating valid sortie costs from January through June and valid munitions cost from January through August.
