(Mice Memorandum ? UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT
TO Executive Officer, CSC
FROM Chief, Engineering Division, OC:
DATE: 27 April 195(,
SUBJECT: Status of Items Mentioned by the Inspector General
The following is a brief recap of the progress made towards implementing
some of the recommendations made by the Insoeci:or General:
A. Teletype Maintenance
The workload for the teletv,oe maintenance force is essentially
the same as at the time of the Iraauector General's visit. At
the time of his visit, there were fourteen (14) people aboard
to handle the workload. Since then four (1) new people have
been received but, attrition and transfers have accounted for
four (4) people so there has been no net gain of people actu-
ally on board. We have set a goal of a strength of twenty-
three (23) people in this section. At present, five (5) men
are actually processing, one of which is expected to report
within a month. It is anticipated that it will take somewhere
between nine and twelve months from now to get the entire
twenty-three people aboard the section in a duty status.
B. Test & Inspection Section
At the T&I Section two (2) people have been aided, one a new
employee and one a permanent transfer from another component
of the division. Against this there are two losses, 25X1A9a
25X1A9a and being transferred Hence, e ne 25X1A6a
change is zero. We have been ab a to obta n some relief through
the assignment of casuals. At the present time we have two (2)
assigned to T&I proper and one (1) assigned to the Crystal Labo-
ratory.proper. We have had one of these men since 31 January,
another since 25 February and the third since 5 March 1956. It
is not known how much longer they will remain. The section has
been able to keep its heacl above water during this period but,
has made no significant pro.:ress in reducing the backlog. There
is one new employee actually processing; for the section and em-
ployment action has been started on another, although processing
has not actually commenced.
