The northwest portion of the vehicle and equipment maintenance and storage area has been walled off from the remainder of the area, and a, new road connects this area to the drive-in wing of the nearby large C-shaped building. A defensive strongpoint with weapons positions similar to those associated with suspect advanced weapons-related facilities (SAWRFs) is under construction west of the housing area. Approximately 3.05 kilometers (km) (10,000 feet) of personnel trenches have been constructed around the perimeter of the SSM housing and support area. This basic re-port irn a.te describes minor changes in the area 25X1 D and includes a location map, two annotated hoto ra. hs and a a u a-i.on of missile-related equipment observed) 25X1 D This report supplements information contained in NPIC TCS-803+5 671 and 25X1 D The Shuangchengtzu SSM housing and support area is approximately 1.4 kilometers (km) east of the main access road of the complex and approximately 1.5 nautical miles (nm) east-southeast of launch complex A (Figure 1). The support facility provides direct support to the SSM launch complexes and con- tains a housing area, a meteorological station, a vehicle and equipment main- tenance and storage area, an observation blockhouse, and a, defensive strongpoint. describes changes to existing facilities and new construction 125X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D There have been relatively few changes in the housing area, since 2 5X1 D the date of the latest photography used in the existing basic repor . The only change in this area is the addition of a small bui di 25X1 D and two personnel bunkers e van-mounted probable END ' radar,, used to track lg altitude weather balloons, is normally observed on the circular hardstand (Figure 2). VEHICLE AND EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE AREA 25X1 D re listed chronologically by mission and date in Table 1. 25X1 D building wing was constructed to connect two storage buildings located along the northern edge e area. Access is provided by a new road, first observed 25X1 D II which connects this secured area to the adjacent C-shaped building (Figure 2). The large C-shaped building may have a missile-related function. The three-story center section and the two-story eastern wing have drive-in capabilities with entrances on the southern sides. 25X1 D 25X1 D only one apparent than e is noted at the concrete observation blockhouse 25X1 D that was constructed on the side of a hill approximately 472 meters (1,550 feet) west of the housing are a new cable scar was observed between the blockhousp End the cable scar connectin SSM instrumenta- 2 5X1 D tion sites 6 and 10 (Figure 3) lock- house has personnel entrances on the northwest and southeast en served 25X1 D by a graded-earth road along side. Defense of the SSM housing and support area is provided by approximately 3.05 kilometers (10,000 feet) of personnel trenches integrated with a defensive strongpoint. The trenches on the northern southern, and western approaches 25X1 D were first observed The eastern approach, which is devoid of trenches, is provided limited protection by the Ochina River. The strongpoint, approximately 463 meters (1,520 feet) west of the housing area, consists of four weapons positions, two bunkers, two earth-covered struct- ures, and an H-shaped structure (Figure 3)- 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 25X1 25X1 D 25X1 D 25X1 D Weapons Positions The weapons positions and bunkers are similar to those associated with the suspect advanced weapons-related facilities (SAWRFs). When complete, each position will be aligned on a northwest-to-southeast axis and will consist of an earth-mounded structure connected by a pair of concrete wheel guides or rail foundations to a nearly circular hardstand. four weapons positions were observed under construction in land were robabl com-Qletel They are 228 meters 750 feet 1 southwest of the observation blockhouse. The westernmos ; o e two positions contains a 25X1 D Iearth-mounded drive-through structure. The other posi ion contains a I eanthmounded structure with a drive-in entrance at its southeast end. ree-meter- (10-foot-) diameter concrete hardstand is located approximately from the entrance of the drive-in structure, and a similar handstand is located an equal distance from the northwest entrance of the drive-through structure. Two parallel, con- crete wheel guides or rail foundations connect each of the structures to its hard stand. The remaining two weapons positions were observed under construction in I cne between the observation blockhouse and the drive-in structure and the other between the drive-in and drive-through structures (Figure 3). Construction of these positions is not complete. 25X1 D Bunkers The two bunkers, each were first 2 5X1 D observed under construction pproxima, e y meters (350 feet) south of the weapons positions. They are s ill under construction (Figure 3)- 25X1 D Earth-Covered Structure 25X1 ia.meter eastern earth-covered structures were cons rut e in wo exca, a base of the hill on which the observation blockhouse is located 25X1 D one of the new personnel trenches discussed above had been extended to the entrance of the northernmost of these earth-covered structures.
