1. As requested, the area on the northeast shore of Birket Qarun
has been searched to determine the existence or the construction of a
nuclear energy installation. good quality current Qpbotograpby. Mission
was used for the search and the earliest available
photograpby over the area, was used for
2. On the northeast shore of Birket t4arun and in an area of ton
nautical miles (=) radius there is no evidence of the existence of a
nuclear energy installation. The only significant construction activity
evident in the area searched. in at a distance of approximately four
northeast of Birket (erun in the depression at El-Birka E3..'Cedi.da and
Birket Kern Aushim at 29 33 - 30 53E (AN8 map UK 36-9, series P502). The
whole area of approximately four square miles, which is at and below sea
levvel at this point is being reclaimed and irrigated. In the middle of
ea seven large rectangular buildings are under construction and two
nonde=script buildings and five small square shaped buildings appear
o have been recently constructed. These buildings appear to be institutional
rather than industrial d are isolated, *nasmuch as no viola a or building
is located within a two = radius from them.
