1. This remoresndum is ,forwarded in answer to above mentioned requirements,
which concerns the location and photo analysis of th=e dams and a thermal
power plant in C. aunist Chine..
2. Of the three dams studied for this requirement., only one had a multi-
pdiTose cal )ability,, this is the Shang-Yu Hydro, Power Plant. The other two dams
were probably built for flood control. The thermal power plant is located at
Kuang-Chou (Canton). .
3. The Shang-Yu Hydro Power Plant is located on the. Chang Shui, 7 mm
M of 2bang-Yu. It is a large non-overflcrw gravity dam with an internal
generator housing and a large substation located on its upper deck. Instead
of a spillway there is a tunnel on the west bank with a large intake and
outlet located above and below the dim respectively. In addition, there ii a
log chute along the east side of the dam. This chute is connected to log
booms which run diagonally across the reservoir. There are numercoua log rafts
afloat on the reservoir. Much of this timber is probably used by the saw mills
located downstream, just SS of the dam.
ii. One of the probable reclamation home is located 13 nm S of sting-Yuan
on a tributary of the Long Shui at 250 21'N - 1120 03'2. This dam appears to
be an embankment,-type dam and judging from its height and shape it probably
has a rock fill, The other darn, a concrete non-overflow gravity type, i's
situated on a tributary of the Yung-Lo Chian, 19 xmg BE of In.-Jen at 26? 27'1 -
1130 29'R. This dam appears to be completes: however, construction work on the
log chutes and spillway was still ? in progress on photography
5. The Kuang-Chou Thermal Power Plant Iasi-Tsun, is located on the western
edge of the city at 23? C8'N - 31.30 131]Z. The plant appeared to. be in operation
on phot pby Most of the plant facilities were concealed in
shadow, hove er, sus o , i1er and ;generator buiiding+ and transmission
lines were greatly accentuated by the lengths of shadows.
