1. This memorandum is in response to your requirement dated 30 August 1962
requesting a search of the following areas in China for various specified electronics/
radar sites: Ningpo, Shang Hai, Nanking, Suhsien, and Changsha.
25X1 2. A detailed scan oY for radar/electronics sites has been
made in the above referenced areas with the following results:
Nin o China. A search of a 4 mm area around 29-50N 122-188 revealed no
evidence of Rus/Dmbo, Cross Fork, chi 18 or unidentified radar. The photography
vas clear and of good quality.
A search of the cloud-free portions of a 10 mm area around 29-56N 121-34E
revealed no evidence of CCI radar sites, Token or Rock Cake electm nice/radar,
however, at 30-O1N 121-35E a radar site vas observed on a knoll 10 r north of
Yin-Hsien. The site contained one Bar bock-type radar, a control center, three
support vans, and one small building (see Figure 1). Approximately: 10 percent
of the area was covered with scattered clouds.
Shang Hai, China. A search of the 30 nm area around 31-15N 121-30E revealed
no evidence of Kniferest B, Rus/Dunbo, SCR-270, Cross Slot, or Tachi 18 electronics/
radar sites. The photography was clear and of good quality.
A search of a 10 iaa area around 31--21N 121-30E, a 2 mm area around 31-19N
121-39E, and a 5 nm area around 31-10N 121-28E, revealed no evidence of Token
radar. The photography was clear and of good quality.
A search of the 20 nm area around 31-10N 121-265 revealed no evidence of Big
Mesh radar. The photography was clear and of good quality.
Nanking, China. A search of the 4 nm area around 32..02N 118-508 revealed no
evidence of SCR-270 or Cross Slot radar. The photography was clear and of good
quality.

A search of the 10 an area around 31-59N 118-48E revealed no evidence of
Rock Cake GCI radar, however, at 31-53N 118-52E, one radar site and one possible
radar site have been identified on a knoll 9 nm south-southeast of Nanking and
6.5 mm southeast of Ta-Chino Chang Air Field. The radar site contains one Token
radar with a control center, two small vehicles, and one support van. The possible
radar site contains a possible radar with one support van and four small buildings
(see Figure 2). There are also ten other buildings in the area that appear to be
older than the buildings at the radar site. These buildings are probably native
dwellings and have no connection with the radar-sites. The photography was clear
and of good quality.
8uhsien, China, A search of a 7 an area around 33-35N 117-058 revealed no
evidence of Hi D nbo, 70MC, or unidentified radars. Two unidentified installations
under construction were observed in the area. However, there is no evidence at
this time that these installations are associated with electronics. The photography
mw clear and of good quality.
3. A search of a 10 an area between coordinates 31-OON 121-32E to 31-30N
121-20E, 32-04N 119-00E to 32.03N 118-03E and 28-33N 113-07E to 27-30N 112-40E,
was made with negative results for communications equipment, microwave stations,
radar or other electronics installations. The photography was clear and of good
quality..
