A hexagon SAM training/support unit has been identified on
photography near Engels, USSR, at 51?28'53"N/46?08'23"E. I 'lie unit is within
the confines of an antiaircraft garrison which is located between. the city of
Engels and Engels Airfield,
The training/support unit consists of a single standard-size hexagon SA.M
launch revetment with an emplaced launcher and chocks, a possible FRUIT SET
radar, 20 possible guidance vans/vehicles, a possible launcher, 3 truck vans,
a cargo-type truck, a possible truck-mounted crane, 2 unidentified vehicles,
2 unidentified trailers, a rou of possible bogie wheels, an L-shaped vehicle
shed 100 by 35 feet and feet, an administration-type building 220 by
65 feet, a possible storage igloo and 2 possible storage tanks 25X1D
each in diameter.
The launcher emplaced in, the revetment is probably utilized for training,
demonstration, and orientation. The guidance equipment is probably being
assembled and tested before being installed at operational sites. The other
vehicles and crane are probably utilized as support equipment and may eventu-
ally be moved to the SA.M support facility near Engels which is under construc-
tion.
