Approved For Release 2J5912123E CIi4-R 1A000300070001-5 JOINT PHOTOGRAPHIC INTELLIGENCE BRIEF` CIA ARMY - NAVY 25X1 D INSTALLATION: Azusa Guidance Facility BRIEF" NO. : JB-1-57 LOCATION Kamchatka Peninsula, near Uka, USSR DATE : 22 October 1957 B.E. NUMBER : None LATITUDE : 57?.57' N WAC NUMBER : 132 LONGITUDE: 162001' E A guided missile instrumentation and Azusa guidance facility identical to the one found at the Tyura Tam missile launch site described in HTA/JM-2/57, has been identified on the Kamchatka Peninsula, 104.5 nautical miles NNE of the town of Klyuchi, USSR. The installation is situated directly on the coast line of the Bering Sea, 7.8 nautical miles NNW of the.fishing village of Uka. 25X1 D 25X1 D The Azusa area is characterized by six radars located at four points around a central control bunker (see attached sketch). The Azusa facility is oriented along an azimuth of 0 which is nearly identical with the= orientation of the Azusa facility yura Tam. .It is probable that both facilities have identical orientations, and thedifference recorded results from geographic location and mensural difficulties. The instrumentation area contains approximately 12 buildings and several earth-covered bunkers. One building has a large astro-dome on the roof and is probably a camera or theodolite position. Considerable track actiuity and cable scars are apparent between the Azusa and instrumentation areas.
