A new airfield in an ea 1y tage of construction is located approxi-
mately 8 nm southeast of Ap it northeast of Kandalaksha.
Clearings indicate that the ru way will be riented NW /SE and will be
approximately 5, 000 feet long and 350 feet wide.. A possible extension
on the northwest end would increase the length o 7, 000 feet.
Grading operations were in progress. on a mall p rti n of the
runway and on a taxiway to the north. A smal c nstru io camp is
located north of the airfield, and an all-weath r road pr ides access
to the area from Apatity.
