However, extensive cloud cover and the lack of good maps hindered the accurate locating of these installations and the determining of their geographic relationships. Due to the intense interest shown by the intelligence community in this Test Center, the accompanying map has been prepared to present the most accurate locations to date of the major facilities at the Center. A detailed photographic analysis of the Test Center is currently in progress, . The Base Support Complex, located along the west coast of Lake Balkhash, contains: a major airfield; fabrication, storage and housing support areas; two major communications facilities (Communications Sites 1 and 2); one probable linear radar inside an 890-foot building .(Radar Site 1); two linear radars (Radar Site 2); and, two major instru- mentation sites (Instrumentation Sites 1 and 2). Launch Complex "B", containing a launch area with one rectangular launch pad and two paved semicircular areas,, probably launch pads, a network of instrumentation sites, a large housing and storage support area, and an airstrip. Communications Site 3, containing two HF fishbone antennas under construction, two mobile VHF sites, and at least 12 support buildings. Instrumentation Site 3, including one 54-foot parabolic tracking antenna, a 250-foot lattice tower, a possible dome-shaped object 35 feet in diameter, 50 major buildings, and an airstrip. Instrumentation Site 4, containing an interferometer,, five buildings with 20-foot domes, and 18 additional buildings. Instrumentation Site 5, a possible interferometer. . Cloud cover and extreme obliquity preclude further identification. Instrumentation Site 6, containing a 110-foot dome and 24 barracks and support buildings. Instrumentation Site 7, containing one interferometer, three build- ings with 20-foot domes, and 24 additional buildings. A. TOKEN-type radar is positioned nearby. Y Instrumentation Site 8, containing an.interferbmeter, a TOKEN-type radar, several instrumentation areas, a support area with 23 major buildings, and an airfield. Instrumentation Site 11, containing an interferometer, 12 major support buildings, and a separately fenced probable communications area. Instrumentation. Site 12, containing an interferometer, five buildings with ZO-foot domes, and at least eight additional buildings.
