ENCLOSURE: Annotated photograph of Karaganda Radio Station
REQUIREMENT RR,fHTA /E/R62/57: Locate and describe communication facilities
in. Karaganda, USSR.
Karaganda Radio Station is located in the southwest section of the city.
hotography shows this installation under construction within a fenced
area measuring 3,300 by 1, 850 feet (see attached photograph). When completed it
apparently will have both medium and high frequency .capabilities.
An 85-foot guyed vertical broadcast radiator, probably for medium fre-
quency transmission, stands in the east-central part of the fenced area. Ground
scars indicating a buried radial ground system extend out to a distance of 550
feet from the base of the radiator.
In the southwest corner of the fenced enclosure a high frequency hori-
zontal rhombic antenna array is under construction. Two guyed poles are
standing. and footings appear to be in for the remaining two.. When the array is
completed the guyed poles will be spaced 240 feet apart.
In the northwest -quadrant of the enclosure footings for four guyed radi-
ators or poles are under construction. The location and spacing of these footings
suggest that when completed this will be a high frequiency dipole beam-antenna
array.
Support buildings for the radio station include a 110 by 65 foot station
building with two adjacent cooling ponds, a 35 by 30 foot coupling?-i.ause, and, a

The Karaganda Television Station is located in the center of Karaganda,
2.5 miles east of the radio station. This installation consists of a 630-foot self-
supporting broadcast tower and a 180 by 120 foot station building. Ground scars
indicate that this is a newly constructed installation.
An annotated photograph of the Karaganda Radio Station is attached.
