RAILROAD YARDS AND SHOPS
SEVASTOPOL, USSR
The Sevastopol Railroad Yards and Shops are located in a narrow
valley at the head of Yuzhnaya .Bay. These yards are at the terminus
of a rail line'from Simferopol, and the associated shops have the
only facilities in Sevastopol for the servicing and repair of locomotives
A comparison of hotography and that of World War II
reveals that all major buildings in this installation were badly damaged
during the war and have since been rebuilt. A new shed and warehouse
facilities have been constructed adjacent to the former repair yard at
the southern end of the site. The three yards- included in this in-
stallation cover approximately the same area as in World War II, how-
ever in both the station yard and freight yard the number of tracks has
been reduced from six to three. Scale of the photography precludes
identification of coaling and watering facilities.
The Sevastopol Railroad and Station Yard, North
=was not observed because of cloud cover. There are no new rail
yards south of Sevastopol Bay, and the rail line leading south from the
city, as shown on , has been abandoned.
Components of the Sevastopol Railroad Yards and Shops are annotated
on the, photograph and described in the accompanying key.
