USSR RAIL LINE SEARCH FOR ICBM ACTIVITY
25X1 D
This report presents the results of a search
for ICBM activity along rail lines in the USSR
on KEYHOLE photography from
I- I
Examination was made of all segments of
rail line (broad-guage main, branch, and spur
lines connected to or a part of the main USSR
rail network) which were at least 8 nautical
miles (nm) long and were covered for a distance
of 15 nm on both sides by photography of suf-
ficient quality to determine with a 95 percent
degree of confidence the existence of ICBM
complexes with launch areas resembling the soft
launch areas, hard launch areas, or single-
silo construction at Tyuratam Missile Test
Center. It should be noted that the above degree
of confidence applies only where a support
facility, road pattern, and one or more launch
areas can be discerned.
PIIOTOGRAPIIY
This search has negated, in terms of [CBM
activity, approximately 2,000 nm of Soviet
rail line and has produced no evidence of 1CBM
activity that has not been previously reported.
Fifteen overlays of World Aeronautical
Charts have been prepared showing all rail
lines searched with negative results. 'I hese
overlays also show the location of all ICBM
launch complexes identified to date anti the
KEYHOLE mission and pass numbers on Which
the rail lines were covered. Copies of rile 15
overlays, which constitute a graphic supplement
to this report, have been forwarded to thc2 CIA
requester and to the TALENT Control Offic,rs of
