This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firingranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing area. or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

A training area is located at the northwest
edge of Tiraspol, north of Tiraspol Army Bar-
racks West
fand west of
the Tiraspol Airfield (Figure 1).
The training area covers approximately
1,400 acres and contains 8 storage buildings,
a revetted ammunition storage building, aprob-
able ammunition storage building, 9 support
buildings, 2 wheeled-vehicle driver-training
areas, 3 tank/assault-gun firing ranges, and an

infantry training area (Figure 2).
The training area appears to be associated
with the Army Barracks West as indicated by
the direct road connection between the two
areas.
The area was covered on mis-
sions
Light to medium activity was observed during
this period, and the only significant change was
the addition of 4 storage buildings.
Aircraft Landing Strips
Tiraspol Airfield is located immediately
east of the installation.
General Storage Area
Area E contains 8 storage buildings and a
support buildin . Two of the storage buildings
were added
and 2 more were added
Ammunition Storage Areas
Area F1 is secured and contains aprobable
ammunition storage building.
Area F2 is secured and contains a small
revetted ammunition storage building and a
support building.
POL Storage Area
Tiraspol Petroleum Storage
located in the center of Tiraspol, con-
tains 5 medium POL storage tanks.
Five large and 6 small POL storage tanks
are located at 46-53N 029-38E.
Driver-Training Areas
Area M1 contains a closed-circuit wheeled-
vehicle driver-training course with 2 support
buildings, several circuits with various driver-
training patterns, 3 figure-8 courses, and a
drivers confidence hill.
Area M2 is a large wheeled-vehicle driver-
training area with various obstacle courses and
a support building.
Tank/Assault-Gun Firing Ranges
Area Ni is a 3,700-foot range with 4 moving-
target runs and 2 support buildings. Light ac-
tivity precludes identification of firing lanes.
Area N2 is a 2,200-foot range with a moving-
target run and a support building. This is
probably a subcaliber weapons firing range.
Several probable stationary targets are visible.
Moderate activity is observed.
Area N3 is a 1,200-foot range with a support
building. This area may be used as a subcaliber
weapons firing range.
Infantry or Combined-Arms Field Training Area
Trench activity and unidentified ground
scarring are visible in Area R.
