The series is being coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group, the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re- port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group. In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report. The training area extends from Staroye at 50-08N 031-05E to Pereyaslav- Khmelnitskiy at 50-04N 031-28E. The training area and army barracks cover approximately 40,000 acres and contain 1 admin- istration building, 8 probable barracks, 13 support buildings, 2 probable ammunition stor- age buildings, 2 bivouac areas with at least 26 probable support buildings, 2 small-arms firing ranges, 4 tracked-vehicle driver-training areas, 3 tank/assault-gun firing ranges, 3 areas with artillery emplacements, 3 combined-arms These installations were coveredonWEY- HOLE missions between No significant change was observed; however, there has been a general increase in the level of activity during this period. DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION Road Service Secondary roads provide access to Staroye and Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy. Administration and Troop Housing Areas Area Dl, the Pereyaslav-Khmelnitskiy Army Barracks Staroye, contains 8 probable barracks, 1 administration building, and 5 sup- port buildings. Area D2 is a bivouac area with at least 20 probable support buildings. Area D3 is a bivouac area with at least 6 probable support buildings. Ammunition Storage Area Area F contains 2 probable ammunition storage buildings located in a small clearing in the northeast corner of the training area. A POL storage area which contains 5 med- ium POL tanks and 5 small POL tanks is located in Tripolye (50-07N 030-46E) (not shown in Fig- ure 2), on the southwest side of the Dnepr River. Small-Arms Firing Ranges Area L1 is a small-arms firing range measuring 680 by 100 feet. Area L2 is a small-arms firing range measuring 1,100 by 1,300 feet with 4 small range control buildings. Both ranges appear active on all photog- raphy with no apparent change in the level of activity. Area M1 is a closed-circuit tracked-vehicle driver-training course. Area M1 appeared to receive only light use on photography of - and slightly increased activity was observed on subsequent photography. Area M2 is a closed-circuit tracked-vehicle driver-training course. Area M3 is a closed-circuit tracked-vehicle driver-training course. Area M4 is a tracked-vehicle driver- training area. Area N2 is a 4,800-foot range with 3 firing lanes, each 2,900 feet long, 3 moving-target runs and a small range support building. Area N3 is a 2,900-foot range with a static firing line, 4 moving-target runs and a large range support building. All ranges appear active on the earliest photography with no apparent change in the level of activity on later coverage. Artillery Emplacements (Batteries) Area Q1 contains 2 probable 6-gun batteries, at least 15 scattered firing positions, and a sup- port building. Area Q2 contains five 3-gun batteries and three 4-gun batteries. Area Q3 contains at least fifteen 3-gun and 4-gun batteries. Some firing positions appear to be abandoned. Most of the batteries in Areas Q1, Q2 and Q3 were first observed on photography of- TCS-80158/65 Infantry or Combined-Arms Field Training Area R1 is a combined-arms training course with possible tank lanes, artillery posi- tions, personnel trenches, and unidentified ground scarring. This area appeared active on the photography with no apparent change on subsequent coverage. 25X1 D Area R2 is a small maneuver area and con- tains numerous artillery positions and extensive track activity. Photographic coverage from reveals increased activity during this period. 25X1 D Area R3 is a large maneuver area with extensive track activity, artillery positions, AAA emplacements, personnel trenches, and possible anti-tank trenches. Photographic cov- erage from reveals increased activity during this period.
