This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground force and Logisi is
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1P1a (L)TA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center IP1a.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators l or
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are is
follows: (A) railroad service, (13) road service, (C) landing strips,
(1)) administrative and troop housing areas, (I:) storage areas, (F) ati-
munition storage areas, (G) POI, storage areas, (11) other buildings and
facilities, (.1) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,

Makhachkala Army Barracks is located in
Makhachkala (Figure 1), 600 meters south of
the Makhachkala railroad station.
Makhachkala Army Barracks covers 19
acres and contains 2 multistory barracks/ad-
ministration buildings, a multistory barracks,
7 other barracks, 2 support buildings, and a
T-shaped dining hall (Figures 2 and. 3). The
installation is probably surrounded by a mason-
ry wall; however, the entire wall is not clear-
ly visible.

DESCRIPTION OF INSTALLATION
Railroad Service
A double-track rail line, approximately 500
meters north of the installation, serves the city
of Makhachkala. The Makhachkala Railroad Sta-
tion is located 600 meters north of the barracks.
Administration and Housing
Makhachkala Army Barracks contains 2
U-shaped multistory barracks/ administration
buildings, a multistory barracks, 7 other bar-
racks, 2 support buildings, and a T-shaped
dining hall.
Road Service
The installation is served by city streets.
Aircraft Landing Strip
Makhachkala Airfield is 7 km west.
POL Storage
Makhachkala Petroleum Storage No 1 (BE
is located 6 km northwest.
