This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed by the Production Center 1Pla.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Vilnyus Military Barracks Viliya River is
located 1 kilometer (km) north of the center of
Vilnyus, on the north bank of the Viliya River
and less than 1 km south of Vilnyus Army Bar-
racks (Figure 1).
This road-served, partially secured mili-
tary area covers 160 acres and contains 21 bar-
racks, 3 administration buildings, 13 general
storage buildings, LO support buildings, 6 uni-
dentified buildings, 1 possibly bunkered building,
15 vehicle maintenance storage buildings, and
2 open storage areas (Figures 2 and 3).

Primary and secondary city roads serve

Area Dl contains 4 multistory barracks,
1 multistory administration building/barracks,

Area D2 contains 9 multistory barracks,
8 single-story barracks, 8 support buildings,
1 administration building, one 150- by 40-foot
vehicle maintenance shed, and possible open
storage.
General Storage Areas
Area El contains 5 storage buildings and
open storage.
Other Buildings
Area Hl contains 1 possibly bunkered build-
ing.
Area H2 contains 6 unidentified buildings
and 1 multistory possible administration build-
ing.
Equipment Storage/Maintenance Area
Area J contains 14 vehicle maintenance and
storage buildings; two 250 by 65 feet, one 350 by
65 feet, two 280 by 65 feet, one 210 by 45 feet,
one 150 by 65 feet, one 150 by 50 feet, one 30
by 45 feet, one 120 by 40 feet, one 220 by 40 feet,
one 190 by 40 feet, one 135 by 45 feet, and one
370 by 60 feet.
